Angela Batinovich, owner of Portland's expansion
franchise in the National Lacrosse League, announced
LumberJax as the team name, a callous-looking lumberjack
figure as the logo, and black and gold as team colors.
The LumberJax new website has been launched at
www.PortlandJax.com.
"Of the 3,067 entries submitted in the 'Name the team
Contest,' entries were submitted as LumberJax or
Lumberjacks," said Batinovich. "After we narrowed the
contest to three names, the LumberJax won with 46% of
the public vote on the website over the Shadow with 32%
and the Fear with 23%. Leading up to the final voting,
we manufactured logos, marketing schemes, and potential
charity partners for each name and we are thrilled to
partner with the World Forestry Center from the initial
announcement. This is an exciting time for the Portland
community, as we continue to grow the foundation of this
team."
Batinovich also announced a partnership between the
LumberJax and the World Forestry Center. The team has
become a Corporate Member for the nonprofit organization
and will donate a portion of the revenue from every
season ticket back to the Portland-based center.
The World Forestry Center (www.worldforestrycenter.org),
a nonprofit educational institution founded in 1966,
provides education that supports sustainable forests
worldwide. Beyond the monetary donation, future players
and management of the LumberJax organization will be
involved with centers volunteer program depending on
their needs and projects throughout the year.
The LumberJax, who will all play home games (eight
regular season and one preseason) at the Rose Garden
from January through April, will draft the teams
first players during the NLL Expansion Draft on
Wednesday at 4pm Eastern/1pm Pacific. Recently hired
head coach and general manager Derek Keenan will select
first in the Expansion Draft. The Entry Draft and the
Dispersal Draft (of the former Anaheim Storm players)
will follow later this summer. Portland will pick first
in the Entry and second in the Dispersal.
Tickets to the LumberJax for each of the nine home
games range from $10-$25, with additional VIP seating
available. Deposits are now being accepted for season
tickets starting at $90.00, by calling 503.235.8771 or
go to

The Portland LumberJax (www.PortlandJax.com)
were founded on May, 11 2005 as an expansion franchise
in the National Lacrosse League, which features the best
lacrosse players in the world. The LumberJax are owned
by the youngest majority owner in professional sports,
24-year-old Angela Batinovich, who relocated permanently
to Portland, OR from California.
