ROANOKE, VA- The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the
United Hockey League (UHL), now have a face to go with
their name as the new logo has been unveiled for the
inaugural season.
After revealing the new name of the team, the Roanoke
group went to work quickly and created the new logo. It
features a venomous viper wrapped around a diamond
shaped crest. The name “Vipers” is displayed across the
center and a hockey stick underlines the name. This logo
was designed by Keith Flynn of Flynnagain Productions (www.flynnagain.com).
Flynn previously designed the award winning logo of the
Richmond RiverDogs as well as the Adirondack Frostbite
logo, both members of the UHL.
Fans were asked to give their suggestions for a name
of the UHL team scheduled to start play in the 2005-06
season. Over 2,500 entries were received by e-mail at
the official UHL website (www.theuhl.com)
and by mail. The winning name, Roanoke Valley Vipers,
was chosen and unveiled on April 9th during the second
intermission of the Richmond RiverDogs vs. Motor City
Mechanics game played at the Roanoke Civic Center.
The winning entry was submitted by both Rodney
Grimmett of Boones Mill, Virginia and Rod Bennett of
Hurt, Virginia. Each receives four season tickets to all
38 home games as well as an official Roanoke Valley
Vipers team jersey. The jersey will be presented to the
winners on opening night of the inaugural season on
October 21st, 2005.
The team will be launching its new website in the
near future as well as announcing a “Name the Mascot”
contest. Further details will be released at a later
date.
