MESA, ARIZONA – The Golden Baseball League’s Mesa Miners introduced their new logo at Sluggo’s Sports Grill in Mesa today.

The main colors of the logo consist of copper and blue. The logo features a white bearded gold prospector holding a baseball with the script “Miners” underlined by a baseball bat.

“We are extremely pleased with the way the logo turned out,” said Miners general manager Becky Thielen. “The logo combines characteristics representative of the Golden Baseball League and the history of mining in Arizona and the old west. The fans really loved the logo and its colors, and we have already had numerous requests for team merchandise.”

Also in attendance were Miners manager Les Lancaster (a former Chicago Cubs pitcher) and outfielder Marcus Knight. Both signed autographs for fans who were able to purchase merchandise with the new logo for the first time.

The team name was chosen by fans in a “name your team” contest presented by Safeway Inc. Contestants submitted their entries to the Miners front office staff, where five final names were voted on via the team’s website www.mesaminers.com. Several individuals who submitted the name Miners were on hand at the logo unveiling and had a chance to be the lucky winner of the “name your team” contest. Larry Renfrow, a Mesa resident, was randomly selected as the winner.

The Miners will play a 90-game schedule which features 54 home games played at HoHoKam Park in Mesa. The Golden Baseball League season begins in May and concludes with the playoffs in September. Opening night for the Miners will be on Thursday, May 26 at 6:35 p.m. Full and partial season ticket packages as well as Miners merchandise are on sale now by calling (480) 39-MINER.
