DALLAS
– The Dallas Mavericks and The History Channel® will
continue the Mavs 25th anniversary celebration with a
series of retro games as part of the NBA Hardwood
Classics Nights program. Increasingly, fans are looking
to connect to the game’s past and gain a better
appreciation for legendary stars and teams as well as
“retro” apparel and fashions. During the “Hardwood
Classics Nights” presented by The History Channel, they
will be treated with special features and activities,
including:
- Mavs adorned in retro jerseys made exclusively by
Reebok
- Video tributes to past teams and legends
- Halftime performance by retro band/entertainer
- 80s-themed in-game promotions, music and
entertainment
“This is all about celebrating our heritage in a fun
and entertaining way through various 80s themed events
and activities during the games,” said Mavs Senior Vice
President of Marketing & Communications Matt Fitzgerald.
“We encourage fans to dig deep in their closets for
their retro Mavs green apparel, and if they can’t find
it they can stop by the fan shop on their way to the
game.”
During the 2004-05 season, the Mavs will play a total
of seven games in a replica of the green uniform the
club wore in its first Western Conference Finals
appearance during the 1987-88 season. The History
Channel will present the five home games that will be
dedicated to the Hardwood Classics theme and help make
the past come alive for Mavs fans.
“For the second consecutive year, the great history
and tradition of the game will be brought to life by the
The Hardwood Classics Nights presented by The History
Channel,” said Michael Mohamed, Senior Vice President,
The History Channel. “We are thrilled to partner with
the Mavs to recognize players, coaches and exciting
competitions of the past, especially as the team
celebrates its 25th anniversary.”
