What a successful 2004 season! The Hamilton Tiger-Cats drew a record 250,000 fans to Ivor Wynne Stadium for the first time in franchise history, and made the playoffs. Yet the most exciting news from the 2004 season has been the remarkable surge of the Tiger-Cat fan support for the 135-year-old franchise.

On to 2005! Today, the Tiger-Cats officially kicked-off the 2005 season by unveiling an updated logo, a new website design and the start of the season ticket campaign. Now, the Ticats sport a new look for the 21st century.

“We have always talked about having a three-year plan and today’s announcement is another exciting step,” said Ticats owner Bob Young. “We are very excited about the evolution of the logo and the fact that the new marks still maintain the classic Tiger-Cat identity”

The Tiger-Cats will be using four logos in 2005. The Tiger-Cat football team will continue to be identified with an up-dated edition of the famous Leaping Tiger logo. The team will also sport an updated version of its Tigers Head logo as a secondary mark. For the business of running a professional football team, a new Standing Tiger logo and a new Word Mark, will be added.

The Ticats colour identity will continue to be the traditional black and gold. The updated Tigers Head and Word mark introduce dark red and grey as highlight colours in marketing materials to add richness and depth to our brand.

“Our vintage Leaping Tiger mark is one of the greatest logos in sports but we believe updating our Leaping Tiger is an important step in reaching new generations of fans,” added Young. “I love to doodle, but even after decades of practice I could not draw a decent version of our vintage Leaping Tiger logo. Now I, and thousands of 10-year-old Ticat fans across Canada, will be able to doodle a pretty good version of the Tiger-Cats’ simpler, more colourful, but still pretty scary Leaping Tiger logo.”

The new look, which can be reproduced more easily and accurately on clothing, in electronic media, and in print, was created by Dan Simon (www.studiosimon.com), one of the leading sports-logo designers in North America. Dan has previously done extensive work for Major League Baseball and the NFL including designing several Super Bowl logos.

Merchandise with the new marks will be available immediately at any Ticats or Sports Obsession Store locations. The club will keep fans up to date when the complete 2005 CFL fashion lines are made available to the public.

All items with the now “vintage” Tiger-Cats Word Mark and vintage Tiger-Head marks are available while supplies last. The club's vintage Tiger-Cats Leaping Tiger will remain an active part of the team's branding system. This will include the 2004 jersey, with the vintage Tigers-Head logo on the sleeve. A new Ticats jersey will be unveiled in the spring.
