Columbus Destroyers Unveil New Logo, Uniforms
COLUMBUS,
OH – In conjunction with NIKE, the Columbus Destroyers
of the Arena Football League officially unveiled the
club’s new logo and modified uniforms at Nationwide
Arena today. The team's color scheme will remain navy
blue, red and silver, however the overall look has been
improved to meet the high standards of a rapidly growing
professional football league.
Head Coach and General Manager Chris Spielman was
joined by President David Paitson and Vice-President of
Football Operations Earle Bruce along with Destroyers
players, offensive specialist Bobby Olive, defensive
specialist JoJo Polk, quarterback Matt D’Orazio and
coaches, offensive coordinator Pete Costanza, defensive
coordinator Ron Selesky and defensive backs coach Vinnie
Clark at Tuesday’s event to help commence the dawn of a
new season.
"Our new logo captures the essence of Arena football
and gives our fans an exciting new look to coincide with
the vast improvements that we have made on and off the
field this offseason,” said Paitson. “We wanted to
develop an identity and overall look that our fans will
embrace, which is exactly what I believe we have
accomplished.”
The
new logo reflects the speed, excitement and skills that
make the Arena Football League brand of professional
football so unique. The initials “CD” are intertwined
with the likeness of a football placed in the middle of
the logo. The font is sharp, representing the
high-energy, high-scoring aspects of the game. The
Destroyers wordmark, which was the primary insignia for
the team last season, remains as a signifying stamp,
however will serve as a secondary mark to the new logo
in 2005.
In addition to the new logo, the club announced
modifications to the team’s helmet and uniform. This
season, the Destroyers will wear white helmets,
featuring the new logo on both sides, with blue
facemasks. Home jerseys will remain blue with silver
block numbers flanked by red shadow trim. Player numbers
will be displayed on both shoulders of the jersey with
the NIKE logo placed in between the number and the
Destroyers logo, which will appear at the base of the
sleeves. Road jerseys will remain white with navy blue
block numbers flanked by red shadow trim. Both home and
road jerseys will feature red and navy blue trim. The
team’s pants will remain silver with the Destroyers
wordmark displayed on either hip. The NIKE logo will
appear on the right front of the pants with the AFL logo
placed opposite.
Destroyers
merchandise, featuring the team’s new logo, is available
at The Blueline, the Destroyers official retail store,
which is located on the main concourse of Nationwide
Arena and online at
TheBluelineOnline.com.
The Destroyers begin their second season in Columbus
in 2005 with training camp set to begin during the first
week of January and the season opener scheduled for
Friday, January 28 versus the expansion Nashville Kats
at Nationwide Arena.
This summer, the AFL announced the first-ever
exclusive “head-to-toe” uniform supplier/apparel
partnership in its 18-year history. The league entered
into a three-year marketing partnership with NIKE, who
will serve as the AFL’s Official Uniform, Sideline
Headwear, and Sideline Apparel Supplier through 2007. As
an Official AFL Arena Authentic supplier and retail
licensee, NIKE will develop a customized uniform
silhouette specific to the AFL.
