Central Hockey League - New Mexico Scorpions
New Mexico Scorpions Going Hawaiian for Opening
Weekend
ALBUQUERQUE
– Maybe there’s no ocean within 800 miles of New Mexico
and maybe Hawaii is over 3000 miles away, but that
hasn’t stopped the New Mexico Scorpions hockey team from
taking a Hawaiian flavor for its Opening Weekend
festivities. The 2004-05 home season kicks off with home
games at Tingley Coliseum against Corpus Christi on
Friday, Oct. 29 and Memphis on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Faceoff for both games is 7:05 p.m.
Prior to each game will be a Hawaiian luau in the
parking lot adjacent to Tingley for season ticket
holders and selected groups. The Scorpions will be
wearing special Hawaiian jerseys featuring a surfing
Scorpion that will be worn both nights and auctioned off
following Saturday’s game.
Friday night’s game will also be Magnetic Schedule
Night, with Scorpions magnetic schedules provided to the
first 3,000 fans. Saturday’s game will be Dodge Randy
Murphy Bobblehead Night, with the first 1,500 fans
receiving bobblehead dolls of Scorpions center Randy
Murphy, who makes his return to the Scorpions that
weekend after three years in the United Hockey League.
There will be plenty of prizes at stake as well,
highlighted by the grand prize of a Hawaiian getaway
each night. Other prizes to be awarded at random include
a cruise, DVD and MP3 players, digital cameras, airline
tickets and hotel stays. On Saturday night, one lucky
fan will have the chance to shoot from center ice for a
brand new Dodge vehicle.
“We are really focusing on making this season one of
excitement and entertainment for our fans,” said
Scorpions Senior Vice President/General Manager Geoff
Kent. “It starts on the ice with the team that coach
McDonald is putting together, but it’s our job to add to
the on-ice excitement with fun activities for the fans.
I look for Opening Weekend to be the start of a great
season for the Scorpions.”
