Road Runners tweak look in Edmonton
The
Edmonton Road Runners on Thursday introduced their new
team logo, along with their campaign to promote the
American Hockey League in what is known as the Heartland
of Hockey.
The Road Runners will launch their inaugural season
in Edmonton on October 15 when they host the Hamilton
Bulldogs. A total of 40 home games will be played out of
Rexall Place, giving local hockey fans an unprecedented
opportunity to follow the development of the next
generation of Oilers players.
The team also announced that Geoff Ward will be
making the transition from Toronto along with the Road
Runners.
Ward, a 41-year-old native of Manitouwadge, Ont.,
began his association with the Edmonton Oilers after
joining the Hamilton Bulldogs coaching staff as an
assistant in January of 2001. Ward assisted Claude
Julien behind the bench as the Bulldogs made it to
within one victory of a conference championship in 2002.
In 2002-03, Ward took over as head coach following
Julien's promotion to Montreal, and promptly guided the
Bulldogs to the Calder Cup Final. In 2003, Ward moved up
the road and continued to lead the Oilers' prospects in
their first season in Toronto.
Edmonton Oilers season seat owners have been given
the first opportunity to secure their seats for the
inaugural season of the Edmonton Road Runners, and will
have the best opportunity to do so. They can either pay
directly for their seats or, if there is an NHL work
stoppage, allocate funds already in their Oilers account
to pay for their Road Runners season seats. Oilers
season seat holders have until Sept. 3 to confirm their
intentions. After that date, their seats will be
released.
Road Runners Prime Packs and Group packages will be
made available to general retail customers on Sept. 27,
and individual game tickets will be released on Oct. 4.
