New blue helmet will contribute to UA's new look

LOS
ANGELES - Out with the old and in with the new is a
recurring theme for the UA football team as it heads
into a new era under first-year head coach Mike Stoops.
That theme took another step Wednesday when it was
revealed that the Wildcats will be wearing new blue
helmets for the upcoming season, doing away with the
trademark white headgear the team has used for more than
20 years.
"We wanted to do something different to change our
luck a little bit," Stoops said at the Pac-10
Conference's annual football media day. "It will
hopefully give us a tougher look."
UA sports information director Tom Duddleston said
the decision to change the helmet had been discussed
since January. The official unveiling will come at the
team's football media day Aug. 12 at McKale Center, but
Duddleston said no special fanfare is expected.
"We're not going to have a press conference for a
helmet," Duddleston said.
