Brigham Young U. Unveils New Football Uniforms
Gridders Get New, Comfortable Uniforms
by Jeff Reynolds, BYU Athletic Media Relations
PROVO, Utah (July 8, 2004) -- In an effort to provide
the BYU football team different uniform combinations for
both home and road games, BYU and Nike have been hard at
work to produce a new look for the 2004 football season.
The new uniforms feature traditional stripes over the
shoulder pads and include subtle design changes that
will allow the team to wear different combinations at
home and on the road. The Cougars will now have the
option of wearing all blue uniforms at home or a blue
jersey with white pants. When playing on the road, the
team will have the option of wearing an all white
uniform or a white jersey with blue pants.
In a process that has taken over 18 months, BYU
Equipment Manager Mick Hill said there is more to the
new uniforms than just the look.
"The fans will notice changes in the appearance, but
there is a lot more to it," Hill said. "While the new
uniform will allow the team to mix and match for both
home and away games, we have made significant changes to
the fabric, the cut and the style of the uniform. They
will be a lot more player-friendly."
Hill said the new uniforms feature a style that will
be more form fitting and comfortable for the players to
wear. In addition, the new uniforms are made with a
light-weight material that will prevent the uniform from
becoming weighted down with perspiration or water.
"The players really like the new uniforms," Hill
added. "In addition to a few changes to the look, they
really like how the uniform fits. They're as tight as a
drum."
The Cougars will debut their new uniforms against
Notre Dame on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Edwards Stadium. Fans
can purchase replica jerseys at the BYU Bookstore.
