Northeast League (baseball) - New Haven County Cutters

New Haven County Cutters Unveil Logo, Uniforms

Two major steps in the development of the New Haven County Cutters took place Thursday afternoon with the unveiling of the team's logo and colors and the official kickoff of the season ticket and mini-plan campaign.

The Northeast League club will launch its 46-game home schedule at Yale Field Memorial Day (May 31), and launch seemed both literally and figuratively accurate as the Cutters entertained both the media and business men and women at a media conference and reception at the Rusty Scupper restaurant on New Haven's seaside.

New Haven Mayor John DeStefano, West Haven Mayor Richard Borer, Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce President Tony Rescigno, Team President Rick Handelman and Jarvis Brown, who was making his first New Haven appearance since being hired as manager, were among those who addressed those in attendance.

The Cutters unveiled a primary logo which will feature the letter C with a baseball bat-shaped mast of a Cutter ship inside. The colors are light blue and yellow, which gets away from darker colors that have been prominent for some time. "We feel the designs reflect the fresh, cutting-edge manner that the Cutters will be known for," said Assistant General Manager Marie Heikkinen Webb.

Home uniforms will be white with pinstripes and will have the word Cutters spread across the front while the road uniforms will feature a newly-introduced tan and the words New Haven County. There is an alternate blue top for the home uniforms. "The designs will take on a life of their own once we start playing in May," the assistant general manager added. "They will represent the light-hearted family fun that will be on display every time fans step inside Yale Field."

General Manager Tim Kelly announced the official start of the public sale of season and group tickets effective immediately. The team has been selling to previous ticket holders for a few weeks.

"Our prices will be noticeably below those fans have known in the past at Yale Field," said Kelly, "both because of our shorter schedule which avoids the cooler months of April and May and a decision by the organization to hold prices down."

Single game tickets, which will go on sale closer to opening day, will have a range of $6 to $12. Full season pricing, which comes with a bonus of free parking, ranges from $276 to $552. The Cutters also are offering 10 and 20-game mini plans. Details are available through ticket representatives at the Yale Field office or by calling (203) 777-5636.

NOTES: The Cutters are nearing completion of their fulltime staff, which includes Todd Richard, Merchandise and Community Relations Director; Rob Keener, Food and Beverage Director; Ryan Smith, Director of Media Relations/Broadcasting; Pete Webb, Head Groundskeeper and Director of Stadium Operations; Jason Horn, Director of Corporate Partnerships; Steve Aurnou, Box Office Manager; and Chris Bain, Ticket Account Executive…the latest player signings include 6-foot-5 righthander Shane Waroff, a former Arizona farmhand who was 4-3, 4.61 with Berkshire in the Northeast League last season, and three players drafted at the league tryout camp last week, pitcher Skip Wiley, catcher Osmel Alvarez and outfielder Tony Brown…the team now has 18 players under control and is allowed to add as many as 10 more prior to the start of training camp in May.
