Midwest League (baseball) - The Swing of the Quad Cities

The Swing of the Quad Cities Unveil Uniforms

The Swing of the Quad Cities unveiled their all-new uniforms on Thursday night at the Davenport Holiday Inn, introducing the Quad Cities area to a striking, unique set of on-the-field clothing for the 2004 season. The team introduced their new jerseys and pants with a runway-style fashion show as part of Swing Training, an event which also featured a Question & Answer session with Swing manager Kevin Boles. The Swing also unveiled a secondary logo, the letters ‘QC’ formed out of an eighth note and an inverted treble clef.

The Swing’s 2004 home look features a classic white jersey with the word SWING written across the chest in Zoot Suit Blue, the team’s primary sky blue color. The sleeves on the jersey are also Zoot Suit Blue in color, and the text on the uniform is bordered in Uptown Orange, the team’s burnt orange secondary color. All of the trim on the home uniform – the piping on the jersey, the player’s socks and belt, and the vertical stripe on the solid white pants – is also Zoot Suit Blue. Swing players will wear light blue hats with the Swing saxophone insignia. The numbers on the home jersey are Uptown Orange in color, and Swing players will have their last names printed across the back in Bossa Nova Navy, the Swing’s third color.

The Swing’s road jerseys are a striking Uptown Orange with white piping, with the word SWING written across the chest in Zoot Suit Blue. Diamond Sports, the Swing’s uniform manufacturer, will custom-dye each of the Swing’s road jerseys, and the Swing will be the only team in baseball to use the Uptown Orange color. The Swing will wear gray pants with a vertical orange stripe on the road, and will complete the uniform with orange socks and belts and an orange cap. Like the team name, the numbers on the road jersey are sky blue in color.

Each Swing game jersey also features the ‘QC’ logo on the left shoulder of the uniform, in a combination of sky blue and navy blue. The Swing also introduced an alternate navy blue game cap featuring the secondary logo.

The batting practice jersey that will be worn by the Swing is a Zoot Suit Blue mesh jersey, with the Swing’s saxophone logo embroidered on the upper left chest. The two-button jersey has white numbers on the back, and will be worn with a Bossa Nova Navy cap.

One notable part of the Swing’s set of the uniforms is the offset nature of the numbers. Every two-digit number worn by a Swing player in 2004 will feature numerals in slightly different sizes: the first digit will be slightly smaller, and will be set slightly above the second digit. The Swing is the only franchise in minor league baseball to arrange numbers in this fashion.

The Swing’s uniforms are produced in the highest-quality material. The home and road jerseys each weight 14 ounces and are made of doubleknit polyester, and the pants, also doubleknit polyester, are 17 ounces. The batting practice jersey is created out of micro mesh fabric, which absorbs sweat from the body and removes it from the uniform.

All of the uniforms worn by the Swing were designed by Plan B Branding, a San Diego-based company that also assisted in the creation of the entire Swing identity. The uniforms will be manufactured by Diamond Sports.
