Texas League (baseball) - Tulsa Drillers
Tulsa Drillers Unveil New Logo, Uniforms
February
12, 2004 - The Tulsa Drillers today unveiled their new
identity program during a team fashion show at the
Woodland Hills Mall. The new identity is part of a
six-month overhaul of the image of the Drillers
franchise.
“Today marks the public launch of the new Tulsa
Drillers and is part of a comprehensive revitalization
of our operations,” said Drillers General Manager Chuck
Lamson. “When fans enter Drillers Stadium on April 8 for
the first time this season, they will notice a new look
for our team on the field as well as our team off the
field and in the stadium."
The
new look includes entirely redesigned players caps and
uniforms. The new home uniforms will feature pinstriped,
sleeveless tops and will showcase the team’s new logo
across the chest. Both the jerseys and pants will have
bronze piping. The new home cap will feature a new
graphite color and a new “T” logo with oil dripping from
the bottom of the “T.”
The road uniforms will also have sleeveless tops, but
will be solid slate blue color with Tulsa across the
front. The road pants will be gray with bronze piping.
The road caps will contain the same “T” logo as the home
caps, but will be slate blue with a black bill and black
button.
The Drillers will also have an alternate cap that is
solid black with a new flaming, oil drop logo on the
front. The alternate cap will be worn by the team for
both selected home and road games.
The Drillers have been working on their new look
since July with San Diego based sports branding firm
Plan B Branding. The new look for the Drillers, recalls
Tulsa’s place in oil history.
“We’ve incorporated the city’s rich oil history into
much of the Drillers new look,” said Plan B Branding
partner Jason Klein.
Plan
B helped develop several of the new marketing
initiatives along with developing the team’s logos and
uniforms, including the new colors of graphite, copper
and mint. The logos and uniforms all include slate, a
custom team color not used by any other professional
sports franchise. Also, the Drillers will be the only
team in Minor League Baseball with the graphite colored
caps.
“Our new look is like nothing else in Minor League
Baseball,” said Drillers Assistant General Manager Mike
Melega. “It’s industrial, it’s mysterious and it’s very
Tulsa.”
Fans can purchase the new merchandise, including the
official game caps and replica jerseys, online by

The following is a complete transcript from Chuck
Lamson's presentation.
Thank you for coming out today as we open this new
chapter in professional baseball in Tulsa with the
unveiling of our new logos, colors and uniforms.
Professional baseball in Tulsa has a rich history
that has been linked to the oil industry, first with the
Oilers and since 1977 with the Drillers. Last summer, we
began working with San Diego based Plan B Branding to
help us identify not only our new look, but what we want
to convey to the Tulsa community.
For many years we have been the premiere, summertime
entertainment destination for Tulsa and the surrounding
area. By identifying and strengthening our brand image
as a place for great family entertainment with excellent
customer service, we plan to enhance fans game day
experience to new levels.
Part
of the branding process is a new look for the team. As
most of you know, since the Drillers inception in 1977,
our primary colors have been red, white and blue. These
were indicative of our relationship with our Major
League affiliate the Texas Rangers. With the change to
the Colorado Rockies in 2003, we felt that the timing
was right for a change.
The design of the new logos and uniforms is meant to
capture the essence of our ties to the oil industry. Our
new look is powerful, industrial and mysterious. It is
also unlike anything else in professional sports. And
now, without further ado – our new logo.
Please help me welcome to the stage, members of the
Oral Roberts University baseball team modeling our new
uniforms.
Our new home uniforms offer a completely new look for
us. For the first time, the Drillers will be wearing
sleeveless, pinstriped uniforms.
The white uniforms feature “rough” pinstripes on both
the pants and jerseys. The pinstriped vest will be
joined by a black under shirt that can be either short
sleeved or long sleeved. The front of the jerseys will
include the new, Drillers primary logo set on a slate
blue background. The Drillers will be slate colored with
a thin mint green filler. The “I” in the word Drillers
will be dotted with our new flaming oil drop logo. The
black under shirts will feature the new oil drill logo
going through a baseball. The numbers on the back and
the front are copper colored and are set on a white and
graphite background. Copper piping is included down each
pant leg and around the arm of the sleeveless vest.
The uniform will be topped with our new home cap. The
cap is a unique graphite color. The Drillers will be one
of only two professional baseball teams wearing the
graphite color caps. The other team will be the Toronto
Blue Jays, who selected the color after we had become
the first team to implement graphite into our caps. The
new home cap will feature a redesigned “T” on the front
that will have our oil drop dripping from the bottom.
The home uniforms will also include black belt, black
socks and black shoes.
The new road uniforms will be very eye-catching
thanks to an exclusive, new color called slate blue in
our jerseys and caps. The slate blue is a custom made
color that is not used by any other professional
baseball team.
The sleeveless jersey will again be over a black
under shirt. The front of the jersey will feature the
word Tulsa in script letters. Tulsa will be graphite on
top of a black background. The graphite will also
include a thin mint green inset that will give the word
definition.
The numbers will be identical to those on the home
jerseys – copper on a white and graphite backing.
The road pants will be gray with a copper stripe down
each leg.

The official road cap will be a graphite crown with a
black bill and will feature the “T” with the oil drop we
saw on the home cap.
These uniforms will also include the black belt,
socks and shoes.
The Batting Practice top is a solid black mesh
button-down jersey with our new oil man logo on the left
chest. The jersey goes well with either the home or road
pants. The BP cap is a black mesh with our new flaming
oil drop logo.
Before we bring out some of our new merchandise, I
want to show you some of our secondary logos that you
will be seeing.
Now to the merchandise.
The biggest selection of merchandise will be
available at Drillers Stadium or online at Tulsa
Drillers dot com on our completely redesigned website.
Several items are also available at the Sports Fan-Attic
here at Woodland Hills Mall and at the Farm Shopping
Center as well as at the Pro Image at Promenade and
Eastland Malls. Some kids items will be available at
Kids Fan-Attic upstairs here in the mall.
Thank you for coming today. Before I open it up to
questions, I want to invite you to join us right here
this Saturday from 12:30 until 4 PM where 2003 Drillers
All-Star Brad Hawpe will be signing free autographs
while wearing our new home jersey and cap.
Thanks again for coming, and we will see you March 13
for our annual open house Fun At The Park Day and April
8 for our Home Opener.
