New Hampshire Fisher Cats Unveil Logo
The wait is over.
Just over six weeks after fans selected the New
Hampshire Fisher Cats as the new name of the Granite
State’s first Double-A franchise in 30 years, the Fisher
Cats have officially unveiled their corporate and cap
logos for the inaugural 2004 season.
The team has selected dark green and brown as their
main colors, with black, white and silver used for
accents.
“We’re
very excited to unveil our full set of logos to the
public. From the name-the-team contest to releasing
these designs, it’s been an exciting process from start
to finish,” said Fisher Cats president and general
manager Shawn Smith. “This is another step toward
creating an identity for the team as we move towards our
Opening Day show on April 15th."
In all, the team is releasing five initial logos – a
corporate logo which will be used as the main identity
brand for the team; a home cap logo, an alternate cap
logo to be worn for away games, and two wordmark logos.
The images were created by Studio Simon of
Louisville, Kentucky, a creator of various professional
sports team logos and the designer of the past three
Super Bowl logos.
The Fisher Cats’ corporate logo (above) consists of
the fisher in all its fierceness, with a bat over the
shoulder and a baseball in the grasp of its claws.
The markings inside the “Fisher Cats” lettering was
designed to resemble the markings of a white birch tree,
the official tree of New Hampshire.
The trees behind the logo, though not white, are
symbolic of the fisher’s natural habitat. Fishers prefer
a continuous forest and are largely found in conifer and
hardwood forests. Baby fishers, known as kits, are born
in a den located in a hollow tree, log or hole in a
rocky ledge. Fishers are very agile animals and climb
trees easily, descending head first and often jumping
across gaps as large as 9 feet. The hind feet of fishers
can turn nearly 180 degrees allowing the fisher to
descend trees headfirst.
The
trees are also meant to symbolize the state’s active
Christmas tree industry, with 36 Christmas tree farms in
the Granite State.
The team’s home cap logo (right) shows the fisher
interlaced in an “NH” with slash marks in the “NH”
similar to the corporate logo. The logo encompasses all
team colors, with the fisher colored in a black base
with brown accents, the “NH” colored dark green with
silver slashes and a silver background, and a brown
background for the logo. Players’ home game caps will
feature this design with a black hat base and a green
bill.
The
team’s alternate cap logo (left) features the fisher
head only, with a black base, brown accents and silver
outline.
Finally, two wordmark logos have been designed – one
with the full “New Hampshire Fisher Cats” name, and one
with the “Fisher Cats” wording only.
Official logo merchandise containing all of the above
logos will be available in the near future. Please check
the team’s Web site,
www.nhfishercats.com, for updates on availability.
