Florida State League (baseball) - Clearwater
Threshers
Clearwater Now the Threshers
CLEARWATER,
FL--The Clearwater Threshers were announced as the
Phillies’ Florida State League affiliate yesterday in a
press conference at the Clearwater Community Sports
Complex. The name, color scheme and logo were developed
with the help of Plan B. Branding, a California based
marketing firm.
“We wanted to integrate the Phillies’ traditional red
and at the same time introduce a new color (indigo) to
the sports world,” stated John Cook, Clearwater
Threshers General Manager. “The other colors, sand and
peach, are also prominent in the theme of the ballpark.”
The new name will replace the Clearwater Phillies who
joined the FSL in 1985 and played their home games in
Jack Russell Memorial Stadium.
The Threshers new web site,
www.threshersbaseball.com, was also released.
Mike Schmidt was named the Threshers’ manager in
October and was on hand to model the new uniform.
“I’m very excited to be the inaugural manager for the
Clearwater Threshers,” stated Schmidt. “I’m also looking
forward to the opportunity to mentoring the young
players.”
The Clearwater team will begin play in a new
state-of-the-art ballpark next to Carpenter Field on Old
Coachman Road. The park, with a classic Floridian
architectural style, will feature:
- A 360-degree main concourse, open to the playing
field.
- A capacity of nearly 7,000 fixed seats.
- Grass berm seating for another 1,000 in the
outfield.
- Group picnic areas.
- A children's play area.
- A tiki-hut pavilion in the outfield.
- Video scoreboard.
The clubhouse, ticket office, executive offices and a
media center will be located in left field, adjacent to
Carpenter Field.
Philadelphia Phillies President/CEO David Montgomery,
General Manager Ed Wade and Assistant GM, Scouting &
Player Development Mike Arbuckle were also present.
