The Swing of the Quad Cities Unveil New Name,

THE QUAD CITIES 'SWING' INTO A NEW ERA!
Swing of the Quad Cities becomes the 15th name in
the area’s rich baseball history
A
new era in baseball history has begun, as on Monday
night the Quad Cities’ professional baseball franchise
was officially renamed the Swing of the Quad Cities. The
unveiling was announced in a public event for fans and
media at the IMAX Theatre in Davenport. The Swing of the
Quad Cities is the 15th name in the history of
professional baseball in Davenport, which dates to 1879.
“We were looking for a new identity that could
maintain our national presence while paying tribute to
the musical heritage of the area,” Swing president Kevin
Krause said. “The name Swing does that, and also has
very strong ties to baseball. It’s perfect for the
region.”
The Swing of the Quad Cities has four official
colors: Zoot Suit Blue, Uptown Orange, Bossa Nova Navy
and Big Band Tan. The Swing is the only minor league
baseball team in the country using this color scheme.
The Swing logo features a saxophone in the shape of
an ‘S,’ with a baseball emerging from the bell of the
horn. The body of the saxophone is primarily Zoot Suit
Blue, a sky blue color, while the other three colors
accent the remainder of the instrument.
The name Swing was selected from nearly 2,000 entries
in a name the team contest held this past summer. Brian
Nelson of Rock Island came up was the only person to
suggest the winning entry, and he will receive a pair of
season tickets for the 2004 season.
The Swing partnered with San Diego-based sports
branding firm Plan B. Branding to help develop their new
name, logo, and colors. The firm worked with the team to
understand what was unique about the franchise, and then
consulted on developing a unique fan experience.
"The Quad City franchise has been extremely well
known both locally and nationally," said Plan B.
Branding partner Casey White. "Our goal was to develop a
brand that upheld the franchise’s national equity, while
creating an entertainment experience that resonates
locally.”
Plan B Branding also designed the team logos,
uniforms and mascot, and will assist the team in
branding the entire “Musical Experience” through game
day operations and fan relations. Plan B has consulted
on franchise operations and created identities for
several Minor League Baseball teams. The Swing of the
Quad Cities will unveil their new uniforms and mascot at
a later date during the offseason.
In addition, the Swing also Monday night launched
their website,
www.swingbaseball.com. The website features all the
latest Swing merchandise, as well as ticketing
information, information on baseball history in the Quad
Cities, and the latest updates on stadium renovations.
Premium seating, sponsorship and season ticket
packages are now available through the Swing of the Quad
Cities offices. The Swing can be reached at (563)
324-3000, or through
