Indiana Pacers to Wear ABA Retro Uniforms
The Indiana Pacers will put aside superstition and
wear retro uniforms this season.
The
Pacers will don the distinctive uniform worn by the 1973
ABA champions in at least six games this season, four at
home and at least two on the road.
The uniform features blue and gold stripes that drape
from the left shoulder, across the chest and down the
right side.
"Cool," Reggie Miller said. "That should be awesome."
The Pacers haven't worn a retro uniform since March
31, 1995, when they lost a home game to a poor Denver
team.
Donnie Walsh, team president at the time, swore then
they would never wear retro uniforms again.
"Time has healed that wound," Larry Mago, the Pacers
senior vice president of marketing, said. "He was in
favor of it."
A replica of George McGinnis' jersey already is
available in the Pacers' gift shop. Replica uniforms of
current players will go on sale on Thanksgiving Day,
when the Pacers will wear them for the first time
against New York.
"It's unique and it's different from the last
throwback," Mago said.
The uniform also will be worn for home games against
Atlanta on Dec. 12, Phoenix on Jan. 28 and Dallas on
March 24. Atlanta will wear retros that inspired the
Pacers uniform in the early 1970s.
The Pacers also will wear the white retro uniforms
for games at Chicago on Feb. 10 and Orlando on March 26.
They also might wear them for a seventh time, a Jan. 19
game at Atlanta.
Those teams will wear retro road uniforms in those
games.
Mago said the Pacers are not considering any changes
to their regular uniform.
Pacers to Wear '72-73 Replica Uniforms for 4 Home
Games
The Indiana Pacers will wear “Hardwood Classic” retro
jerseys from the 1973 American Basketball Association
championship season for four selected home games during
the upcoming National Basketball Association season. The
first game will be Thanksgiving night, Nov. 27, when the
Pacers host New York in a nationally-televised game on
TNT. Also that night, fans in attendance will receive a
“History of the Uniform” poster, featuring all the
uniforms the Pacers have worn since their inception in
1967.
The Pacers will also wear the uniforms Dec. 12, when
they host Atlanta in Conseco Fieldhouse. The Hawks will
wear their “Hardwood Classic” road uniforms. The other
two home dates will be Jan. 28 against Phoenix and March
24 against Dallas. Each of these games is included in a
separate 10-game ticket package, available by calling
(317) 917-2500.
The Pacers will wear the white retro jerseys for
three games on the road, at Chicago, at Orlando and at
Atlanta as those teams will wear retro jerseys as well.
Starting Thanksgiving night, limited-edition
“Hardwood Classic” authentic jerseys, replica jerseys
and t-shirts will be available in either Home Court Gift
Shop.
