Unveil Vintage Jerseys
The
Canadiens unveiled Monday their Vintage Jersey Nights
for the 2003-2004 season at a luncheon held for the
team's private suite owners and corporate clients.
The move came as part of the NHL's Vintage Jersey
Program, which features six teams. The Canadiens will
wear a replica of their official white jersey from the
1945-1946 season on six occasions at the Bell Centre.
Five of the Canadiens’ six opponents for those games
will be Original Six teams: Detroit, Boston, New York,
Chicago and Toronto. The Vancouver Canucks will be the
other featured opponent.
Montreal will also don its 1945-1946 uniform for a
Feb. 26 contest in Boston. The team will wear a replica
of its official red jersey from the 1958-1959 season for
two other road games, one on Nov. 18 in Vancouver, the
other on Nov. 22 in Edmonton.
The Canadiens' official jersey has undergone several
changes over the years since the team's inception in
1909. The uniform has featured its red, white, and blue
colors since 1914-1915. The 1945-1946 jersey was the
Canadiens’ first white uniform in team history. In
1951-1952, the NHL mandated all clubs to don a white
jersey for home games and a dark uniform for all road
games. As part of an NHL initiative in 2003-2004, the
Canadiens will wear their traditional red jerseys at
home for 35 of their 41 games at the Bell Centre. The
team will wear its traditional white uniform for 38 of
its 41 road games.
All vintage jerseys are being exclusively produced by
Montreal-based The Hockey Company utilizing the CCM
brand.
