Calgary Flames Unveil New Red Home Jersey

Flames bring back red with new home jersey

Mayor declares week "C of Red" Calgary Flames President & CEO Ken King, accompanied by the Mayor of Calgary Dave Bronconnier, unveiled the Flames new home jersey Friday at the Pengrowth Saddledome. The new jersey is a return to red as the primary color and features a bold new black flaming C.

In addition to the launch, Mayor Bronconnier declared the week leading up to the Flames home opener on October 11th, as "C of Red" Week.

"It is a pleasure for me to be a part of today's announcement and the tradition of the Flames in our City," said Bronconnier. "I have been a hockey fan all my life and a supporter of the Flames since their move to Calgary in 1980. Today they continue to build on a great tradition. In keeping with a long-standing Flames tradition, it will be fun to once again celebrate the franchise with "C of Red" Week."

With over 23 seasons of NHL hockey in Calgary, the Flames have a loyal group of fans that have backed the franchise since 1980. There is also a new generation of fans that are stepping up to support this hockey club. The new look recognizes both groups with an emphasis on tradition for the home red uniform and a bold and youthful appeal with the black flaming C.

"I'm excited about the new home jersey. It has a strong emphasis on the great tradition of the Flames while adding a new look to the team," said King. "Darryl Sutter and the team are creating an identity for our club and have made positive changes for the 2003-2004 season. As we build toward a bright future, this is an ideal time for the return to our red uniforms that acknowledge and build on our history."

Flames fans will see their team wear the new jersey at home games, including the home opener on October 11th, as the NHL has a retro look this season with a return to the era when the clubs wore dark colors as their home uniform. The white uniform will now be worn for road games while the black jersey becomes the alternate uniform to be worn six to eight times throughout the season for designated games.

The new home jersey will be available to the public immediately at all Flames FanAttic locations, Hudsons Bay Company stores and all 18 Calgary Co-op locations.
