RiverDogs Unveil Name, Logo
AND THE WINNER IS………….RIVERDOGS!!!
Richmond,
VA – The Richmond United Hockey League expansion
franchise has chosen RiverDogs as the club’s nickname.
The name was selected by club management from over 3,000
entries in the squad’s ‘Name the Team’ contest.
RiverDogs is one word and the ‘D’ is capitalized.
Harold Kretzer of Richmond was picked in a random
drawing from all of the contestants who submitted
RiverDogs. He receives two season seats and one
personalized custom game jersey from Richmond
Pro-Hockey; $20 in concessions vouchers for all 38
regular season home games from the Richmond Coliseum; a
$100 gift certificate to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse plus a
limo ride to dinner, the game, and back home by Elegant
Affairs Limo from the Richmond Times-Dispatch; two
season passes to Snowshoe Mountain, WV from 96.5 The
Planet; and a $100 gift card from Ukrop’s
The club received a massive response for the contest,
sponsored by the Richmond Times Dispatch and 96.5 The
Planet. Popular choices included “Rapids,” “Rebels,”
“River Rats,” “Rhinos,” and “Raiders.” Some of the more
colorful choices included “Tobacco Leafs,” Love Bugs,”
and “Fighting Iris.”
The RiverDogs logo and colors (navy and maroon) were
also unveiled today. The RiverDogs website,
www.riverdogshockey.com, is scheduled for launch
this afternoon.

at the Richmond Coliseum Friday, October 31 vs.
Muskegon at 7:35. Season tickets and ticket packages
