10TH ANNIVERSARY AND CALDER CUP LOGOS UPDATE THE
AEROS LOOK
HOUSTON
- The Houston Aeros unveiled two new logos for the
2003-04 season today. Each logo design commemorates the
celebration of 10 years of hockey in Houston and the
Calder Cup championship.
The ten-year anniversary logo features an updated
version of the old bomber logo. The team name is
prominent with an illustrated F-18 Hornet below it. The
new logo uses the Aeros navy blue complimented by a
lighter powder blue. The logo coloring was inspired by
the ‘72-‘78 WHA Aeros team colors. The Aeros will use
the ten-year anniversary logo through the 2003-04
season, and will remove the banner for use as the
primary logo next year.
Houston won its first Calder Cup championship in a
thrilling seven-game series over the Hamilton Bulldogs
on June 12, 2003. The championship logo illustrates the
Calder Cup, highlighted in the Aeros new team colors.
The Aeros will use the Calder Cup championship logo in
team publications through the upcoming season. Both
logos can be seen in the attached file and on
www.aeros.com. Team graphic designer, David Irias,
illustrated both logos.
The American Hockey League and the National Hockey
League will change home and road jerseys this year. All
teams will wear dark jerseys at home and light colored
jerseys on the road. The Aeros will wear their new navy
blue jerseys with the white Aeros lettering and the
reverse for games on the road.

Aeros unveil logo for season No. 10
F-18 design commemorates anniversary
By ANDREW J. FERRARO
Special to the Chronicle
Playing on a new sheet of ice at Toyota Center this
fall isn't the only change the Aeros have in store for
the 2003-04 American Hockey League season.
The
Aeros unveiled a new logo for the team's 10th
anniversary season Tuesday. Gone from the logo is the
World War II bomber flying through a hockey puck. The
Aeros kept the aircraft theme, but the 10-year
anniversary logo has an F-18 Hornet with the nickname
displayed above the fighter.
The logo features the Aeros' navy blue from the old
logo, but things are simpler with powder blue and white
the only other colors.
According to the team, the logo coloring was inspired
by the 1972-78 World Hockey Association Aeros
franchise's colors.
For
the 2003-04 season, a banner below the logo says "10
Years of Hockey." That banner will be dropped after the
season.
"We wanted to go with a more streamlined look, to
upgrade it a bit," said Aeros president Tom Garrity.
"There were a few (designs) that we were looking at to
choose from and I think we went with the one that we
were most happy with."
Garrity, who began working for the Aeros on Monday,
joins the team after spending three years with the
Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.
"The majority of people we've spoken to like it and
they're looking forward to seeing it out there," Garrity
said.
