MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The West Virginia University
football team will sport an updated look for the 2003
season, as Nike has provided the Mountaineers with new
uniforms for the upcoming campaign.
"We're really pleased with the look of the uniform
update. We took an informal poll among the players and
our fans to help establish the design," says Coach Rich
Rodriguez. "Nike makes a great uniform. Our fans are
going to see a classy, sharp-looking West Virginia team
on the field."
Both the home and away jersey will have a gold side
panel in a "batwing" design that frames the chest. The
"WV" logo will continue to be featured on the jersey
sleeves and the left hip of the pants. The gold pants
remain stripeless, but the white pants and blue pants
will feature contrasting stripes.
New to the jersey is the word "Mountaineers" across
the front; that word and the jersey numbers introduce a
new easier-to-read font to WVU athletic uniforms. WVU
introduced white pants last season for the first time
since 1979, and the Mountaineers last wore blue pants in
1995.
The new-look jerseys and Mountaineer apparel items
are now on sale at
www.shopwvu.com, the WVU Team Shop in the Coliseum
and licensed retailers statewide.
