Marietta College Unveils New Logo Package
New identity package designed by College Art
Director Ryan Zundell ’93
MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College is excited to
announce the unveiling of a new logo and identity
package for the athletics department, the first of its
kind in the 168 years of the College.
Marietta College has decided that now is the perfect
time to put a visual representation of what “Pioneers”
represents. A new symbol to coincide with the opening of
the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center and a new era in
athletics at MC.
Marietta College Art Director Ryan Zundell, who is a
1993 graduate, designed the new logo package. Zundell,
who lives in Marietta with his wife, Renea, also earned
his master’s of communication studies from West Virginia
University in Morgantown in 1994. He is a 1989 graduate
of Fairmont Senior High School.
“By giving the Pioneers a visual identity, Marietta
College will have a professional look and a higher
profile as a college,” Zundell said. “Many larger
institutions like Boston College, BYU and San Diego
State have recently updated their logos and team colors,
giving them a unified look and professional feel.”
Zundell says the new logo design will provide the
athletics department with the opportunity to bring
uniform colors back to one standard and give the College
a consistent look across all athletic teams.
“The new logo package is flexible and gives each
coach choices as to how to use the logo family without
changing the overall look and feel of the logo,” Zundell
said.
The logo comes in both two and one color versions. It
will be featured on all material (such as stationery,
uniforms, hats, bags, T-shirts, travel suits, etc.) so
that it conveys a simple and consistent message from
Marietta College.
“We’ve been looking at the possibility of updating
our ‘look’ for a while now,” said Director of Athletics
Debora Lazorik. “We were presented with a variety of
options that give our coaches flexibility, while at the
same time maintaining a consistent look throughout the
department.”
The new logo features the word “Pioneers” in white
with a silver and navy blue outline, with the words
“Marietta College” in navy blue underneath the logo.
Also developed, as part of the package is an actual
Pioneer mascot logo, and a new, modernized interlocking
MC.
“This has been a very gratifying process,” said
Zundell, who also played basketball at MC. “To be able
to give this College a visual identity and to see the
logo already used throughout the new Dyson Baudo
Recreation Center and painted on the floor of Ban
Johnson Arena makes me very proud.”
Zundell also redesigned the new Ohio Athletic
Conference logo.
The Marietta College baseball team will be the lone
exception to the logo identity. The baseball program
will continue to use its traditional interlocking MC.
