New York Islanders Unveil New Alternate Jersey
There's a hip, new look around
Islanders Country.
For
the first time on Wednesday, the Islanders will don
their new Third Jersey against the Ottawa Senators.
Don't worry, Islanders fans, the classic Islanders logo
is intact as the jersey features a vibrant look with an
infusion of orange bordered by blue. The jersey has been
designed with a retro appeal as well, complete with the
traditional hockey "tie" on the neck of the sweater.
"Today is a special day for this franchise," said
Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Paul
Lancey. "We're turning it around in many ways. Coming
off a playoff season and with high expectations for this
year, including beating the Rangers on Saturday, we
believe that this was a perfect way to introduce a
special fashion statement for the franchise."
The debut of the third jersey will be Wednesday's
"ORANGE-OUT" Night against the Ottawa Senators. Peter
Laviolette's troops will also wear the new Orange and
Blue on Friday when the Islanders host the Columbus Blue
Jackets.
Islanders fans will have the opportunity to view the
Islanders' Third Jersey 11 times on Coliseum ice --
including twice this week. The jersey will also be worn
four times on the road.
"It's definitely a fancy, hip look," said captain
Michael Peca, who sported the new threads at the press
conference with wife Kristin and two-year old son
Trevor. "The Islander logo is something all Islanders
fans can identify with and it's nice that we still have
it on our chests. But fans are going to really enjoy the
new Third Jersey. It catches your eye in a very positive
way and they are going to be proud to wear them like
they do our regular home and away sweaters."
Said Alexei Yashin, who was flanked by girlfriend and
supermodel Carol Alt: "I like it a lot. It's a nice look
for the organization and the colors are great. Plus, it
still has our traditional logo."
The press conference, which took place at Champions
at the Long Island Marriott, was emceed by Islanders'
arena hostess Jill Nicolini and featured appearances by
Ice Girls Deirdre and Allison, as well as Sparky The
Dragon in the new Islanders Third Jersey.
The Islanders Third Jersey will be available for
purchase at the main Islanders Team Store located at the
Nassau Coliseum Box Office beginning at 6 a.m. on
