West Michigan Whitecaps Unveil New Logos
Whitecaps unveil new logos, 10th Anniversary plans
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps
announced today the unveiling of a new set of logos as
well as plans to commemorate their 10th Anniversary
season.
The new logos focus on a baseball riding a wave and
replace the original circle and script logos that have
identified the team since its inception in November
1993. While the water theme (representing the Grand
River as well as Lake Michigan) was incorporated into
the original logos in the form of aqua blue color and a
wave, the new logos are much less subtle in their use of
a wave as the central theme. Brighter blues and a
character built into the wave make a bold statement that
continues to be relevant in a geographic sense but has a
more updated look. The original circle logo will
continue to be used on a limited basis. The complete set
of five logos can be viewed online at the Whitecaps'
newly-redesigned web site,
www.whitecaps-baseball.com.
A 10th Anniversary logo is also being introduced. The
new collection of logos are part of the team's plans to
commemorate its 10th Anniversary season. Fans can look
forward to many promotions and activities that center
around the 10th anniversary, including a season-long
advertising campaign that will focus on fan's memories
and experiences from the past 10 years. Fans are
encouraged to visit the Whitecaps web site and submit
their fondest Whitecaps memory or experience. The
responses will be used all season long at games and in
the team's marketing campaign as part of the 10th
Anniversary commemoration. Fans whose responses are
selected may appear in a TV or radio commercial or
newspaper advertisement as part of the Whitecaps
advertising campaign. Look for more 10-year related web
site and stadium promotions to come.
John Guthrie, Vice President of Sales and Marketing,
said the advertising campaign will commemorate not only
what the Whitecaps have done in the past 10 years but
also what the team has meant to the fans over the years.
He expects the in-stadium promotions to focus on the
same theme.
"We're taking the number 10 to heart in a variety of
clever ways that will not only enhance the excitement
around the season but also reward fans for their
continued support," said Guthrie.
A line of merchandise featuring the new logos is now
available at the Fifth Third Ballpark Souvenir Shop,
including T-shirts, caps (including the official New Era
fitted player caps), sweatshirts, pennants, baseballs,
coffee mugs and collector glasses. The shop is now open
from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 3
p.m. Saturday through Dec. 24.
In addition to logos, Whitecaps players will wear
newly-designed uniforms in 2003. The home white uniform
will feature the Whitecaps Script logo across the front,
the Wave logo on the right sleeve and the 10th
Anniversary logo on the left sleeve. Two-tone blue
piping will decorate the sleeves and around the neck of
the jersey as well as down the sides of the pants. The
road grey uniform features a "West Michigan" stylized
script similar to the Whitecaps script on the home
jersey, with the Wave logo on the right sleeve, 10th
Anniversary logo on the left sleeve and piping around
both sleeves. The grey pants do not have piping. The
alternate jersey is medium blue mesh with the Wave logo
on the left chest, the 10th Anniversary logo on the
right sleeve and piping around both sleeves.
The home cap is navy and features the Wave logo; the
road cap is navy with the "WM" logo and the alternate
cap is white with a navy bill and features the Wave
logo.
