D.C. United Unveils New Road Uniforms
New Road Kit Unifies Black-and-Red’s Overall Look
CHANTILLY, VA - D.C. United, in conjunction with
adidas, announced today plans for the Black-and-Red to
don a new away kit for the 2003 season. After enjoying
the performance and comfort of their newly designed home
uniforms in 2002, which included a change to adidas's
ClimaLite technology, D.C. United decided to implement
the same look for their away kits next season.
"We're very pleased with the look and feel of the new
kits," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper.
"adidas did a great job designing uniforms that will
allow our players maximum comfort in addition to
continuing the club's on-field identity branding." There
are very few changes in the kit, with both the base
color for the jersey and shorts remaining white. The
biggest difference is the subtraction of the three broad
red bars across the middle of the jersey, which will be
replaced by adidas's signature "three stripes" in black
across the middle of the top, as well as on the sleeves.
Red will also be prominent on the new uniforms,
providing patches that highlight the sides of both the
jersey and shorts.
The new road shirts and the current black kits will
be the only uniforms D.C. United dons during the 2003
MLS season. The three-time MLS Cup Champions have
decided to drop the red alternate third kits that were
debuted during the 2002 campaign.
