KNOXVILLE, TN- Tennessee Indoor Professional Sports,
Inc., ownership group of the new indoor football
franchise in Knoxville announced the team name and logo
today at a press conference held at Volunteer Landing.
The Tennessee RiverHawks will play in the National
Indoor Football League in the 2003 season. The name was
chosen after careful consideration. “We wanted to
represent East Tennessee,” said Director of Marketing
Ashley Humphrey, “Downtown Knoxville is literally on the
banks of the Tennessee River and hawks are a very
visible part of the wildlife found in the area. They
just seem to fit.”
The RiverHawks, whose colors are green, black, and
silver, turned to two local artists for a fierce and
intimidating logo. Mike Taylor, owner of Taylor Graphix
in Knoxville, was consulted on the preliminary idea. The
RiverHawks then asked Joe Marek, to design the final
logo. “I tried to capture the hawk as its prey would see
it before it attacks,” said Marek who operates CopyIt!,
a print shop in Powell, TN. “The talons are a major part
of the logo, they come right at you.”
The Tennessee RiverHawks will play all home games at
Knoxville Civic Coliseum. The National Indoor Football
League season runs March through July. Player tryouts
will be held in Knoxville on October 19th from 5pm to
10pm at the ThunderPlex on Lovell Road. Dance team
tryouts will be held on November 16th at 9am in the
Civic Coliseum Ballroom.
Season tickets prices for the seven games of the 2003
season are: VIP Floor $140, Lower Balcony $105, Upper
Balcony $63. For more information regarding the team or
