Pittsburgh Penguins Unveil New Home Sweater
Things have come full circle for the Penguins on the
uniform front, with the reintroduction of the skating
Penguin as the primary logo for Pittsburgh hockey. The
Pens unveiled their new home sweaters, which feature the
flightless fowl, at a news conference on Thursday.
” We feel, as many fans feel, that the skating
Penguin is the singular image that represents the legacy
of and the future of hockey here in Pittsburgh,” said
Penguins Vice-President of Properties, Mike Lee. “Two
years ago we presented a new alternate jersey…that
featured the skating Penguin. We introduced it with the
idea that we would pay tribute to the storied past of
the franchise while marking the start of a new era.
Today we complete the process by unveiling the new home
jersey that does feature the skating Penguin.
“Hopefully we’ll have it in Pittsburgh for many years
to come.”
Alexei Kovaelv and Ian Moran were on hand to model
the new tops, and had nothing but good things to say
about the threads.
”I like it a lot,” said Moran. “When I grew up I was
always a big fan of the skating Penguin, so I think to
bring it back is a great idea. I think the color
schemes, with the gold in there, really looks good.”
The new sweaters are essentially the same as the
team’s former alternate jerseys – now the permanent road
jersey – with white as the background color. Fans will
have to wait to see the team in the shirts, however –
they will not wear them in the pre-season. But they can
get their hands on them starting today at PenStation at
Mellon Arena or through
pittsburghpenguins.com and
nhl.com. PenStation will have special extended hours on
Friday (10am to 6pm) and Saturday (10am to 2 pm), with
regular store hours (11am to 4pm) during weekdays the
remainder of the summer.
