New Orleans Hornets Unveil New Logo, Colors,
Uniforms
New Orleans, LA - The New Orleans
Hornets unveiled their new logo, team colors and uniform
designs at an assembly this afternoon for the media and
students at Christian Brothers School in New Orleans.
The new logo features the team mascot, Hugo, with the
city's name across his chest. The words "New Orleans"
appear above Hugo and "Hornets" appears below him --
both in teal. The basketball that appears in the logo is
gold, a new color added to the Hornets' original color
scheme of teal and purple that helped the team lead the
NBA in merchandise sales for several years.
"We feel that the new logo and colors better capture
the spirit of New Orleans," said Hornets Majority Owner
George Shinn. "We wanted to incorporate the traditional
Mardi Gras colors and liven things up a little to
reflect the excitement and the energy that this team and
this city are creating together."
The Hornets' new logo and colors will be incorporated
into all aspects of the team's image, including
uniforms, merchandise, marketing and advertising.
The
uniforms will feature the city's name on both the
home and away versions. The home uniforms will be white
with purple, gold and teal trim, "New Orleans" in teal
outlined in purple and the numbers in teal outlined in
purple and gold. The road uniforms will be teal with
purple, gold and white trim, "New Orleans" in white
outlined in purple and the numbers in white outlined in
purple and gold.
"Having 'New Orleans' across the chest of both the
home and away uniforms will help us become ambassadors
for this city all over the country and all over the
world," said Shinn. "People will be able to identify our
players and our franchise with the city of New Orleans
both in person and on television on the global stage
that the NBA provides."
In addition to the Hornets' primary logo that was
introduced today, the team also unveiled two secondary
logos: one features a white H outlined by a hexagon of
teal, gold and purple while the other features the Hugo
logo outlined by a hexagon of teal, gold and purple.
All students received t-shirts with the new logo
during the assembly, which was emceed by Hornets
broadcaster Gil McGregor. Also in attendance were Shinn
and Head Coach Paul Silas.
